Our Story

Started by one woman's vision for Kathmandu's most vulnerable.

Higher Ground Nepal began with a simple belief: that dignity comes through honest work. What started as a small bakery has grown into a training ground where at-risk women and youth learn to bake, brew, sew and bead their way into stable, skilled livelihoods.

  1. 2006

A single bakery counter in Bhanimandal begins serving baked goods and coffee, training its first bakers and baristas.
  2. 2008

A jewelry and handicraft workshop opens alongside the bakery, giving women a second path into skilled income.
  3. Today

Bakery, café and craft counters sit side by side in Bhanimandal — alongside programs in mental health, education and scholarships.

Our Social Mission

Beauty that Heals.

At Higher Ground, we believe that economic empowerment is the first step toward lasting restoration. Every purchase you make—whether it's a sourdough loaf or a brass pendant—directly subsidizes clinical counseling and trauma-informed care at the Nakkhu Community Center.

The Core Philosophy

“Beyond Wages — Healing Lives.”

We believe that a paycheck is only one part of the journey toward independence. True recovery requires a safe space to process trauma, rebuild self-worth, and find a supportive sisterhood.

At the Higher Ground Community Center, we provide access to professional counseling and peer-support groups. Our "Trauma-Informed Workplace" model ensures that every supervisor is trained to understand the unique challenges faced by survivors of exploitation.
